Abstract

In der Dissertation werden drei künstlerische Arbeiten zu Flucht und Migration nach und innerhalb von Europa untersucht. Es handelt sich dabei um eine Filminstallation von Isaac Julien sowie eine Fotografie und eine multimediale Rauminstallation von Tanja Ostojić. Es wird davon ausgegangen, dass die Art und Weise, wie Flucht- und Migrationsbewegungen auf den und innerhalb des europäischen Kontinents repräsentiert werden, nicht zuletzt auch davon abhängt, wie letzterer – verstanden als räumliches und identitäres Konzept – imaginiert wird. Daher liegt ein Schwerpunkt in der Analyse der künstlerischen Arbeiten auf den Repräsentationen Europas. Theoretischer Bezugspunkt hierfür sind postkoloniale und kritische Europastudien. Darüber hinaus spielt Weiblichkeit eine wichtige Rolle in der Formierung spezifischer (Vorstellungs-) Bilder von Flucht und Migration einerseits, Europa andererseits und schließlich ihres Verhältnisses zueinander. Sie stellt daher den zweiten Schwerpunkt in der Analyse dar, die auf Beiträge in der feministischen Forschung zur Formierung von (nationalen) Gemeinschaften Bezug nimmt.

Community - Border - Gender: Representations of femininity in artistic works on migration to and within Europe

The dissertation examines three artistic works dealing with migration to and within Europe. The works examined are a film installation by Isaac Julien as well as a photograph and a multimedia installation by Tanja Ostojić. It is assumed that the way in which migration is represented on and within the European continent depends not least on how the latter - understood as a spatial and identitary concept - is imagined. Therefore, the analysis of the artistic works focuses on the representation of Europe. Theoretical reference points for this are postcolonial and critical European studies. Furthermore, femininity plays an important role in the formation of specific (imagined) images of migration on the one hand, of Europe on the other, and finally their relationship to one another. It therefore constitutes the second focus of the analysis, which makes reference to contributions in feminist research on the formation of (national) communities.
