Abstract

Population ecology studies on noctules Nyctalus noctula (Schreber, 1774) in the Uckermark, Northeast Brandenburg

["eprint_fieldname_abstract_plus" not defined]

Long-term studies focusing on population ecology of noctules in the Uckermark, are ongoing since the 1970th. Those research results are being presented in this doctoral thesis. Part one of the thesis comprises settlement behavior, locality and age of uckermarkian noctule males, as well as the resulting consequences for their population ecology. Morphometric data of 2.670 uckermarkian adults are presented in part two. This data is compared with measures of individuals from other origins. If a sexual dimorphism exists and what factors influence the body size of adult notules, is investigated as well. Development, phenology and roost use of an extensively monitored nursery colony is documented in part three. It is illustrated in how far the availability of suitable roosts influences the population size and what characterizes optimal roosts. Based on those results, recommendations for wind turbine permits, for the use of bat boxes and for a nationwide population monitoring are given.
