Abstract

Carbon dioxide activation under Fischer-Tropsch conditions with the addition of ammonia

["eprint_fieldname_abstract_plus" not defined]

At reaction conditions of 230 - 350 øC, 4 bar (a) the Fischer-Tropsch reaction of CO2 was tested on iron and cobalt based bulk and supported catalyst. Promotors such as K and €u and the addition of 5 vol-% NH3 into the synthesis gas mixture were studied. With all bulk metal catalysts CO, CH4 and Fischer-Tropsch products could be obtained, although with lowered chain growth probabilities compared to the classical Fischer-Tropsch. Unpromoted iron catalyst showed the highest selectivity for FTS products. The addition of K led to reduction in activity and increase in CO selectivity. The used Co bulk catalyst formed primarily methane.CO-CO2 Switch experiment showed with Fe a typical FTS spectrum under CO-FTS and with CO2 significantly decreased C2+ selectivity. In contrast Co showed two pseudo-stable reaction equilibria. With the addition of NH3 to the CO2-FTS no N-containing products or oxygenates were formed. The product spectra and selectivity remained unchanged.
