Abstract

Synthesis of new silicon(II)-compounds and studies of their reactivity

A new method for the preparation of NHC-stabilized silylenes is the NHC-induced fragmentation reaction of 7-silanorbornadienes. This NHC-induced fragmentation reaction is especially useful for the synthesis of NHC-stabilized hydridosilylenes which have a great synthetic potential in hydrosilylation chemistry. The results of theoretical and experimental investigations of this compounds and their reaction products (silicon–iron complex, silicon–chalcogen compounds) led to the conclusion that NHC-stabilized silylenes are best regarded as neutral equivalents of silyl anions and thus, an isolobal relationship to phosphines is given. Theoretical investigations showed that the NHC-induced fragmentation reaction of 7-heteronorbornadienes is general and can also be applied to other 7-heteronorbornadienes with elements from groups 13-15.
