Abstract

By means of a Millet’s shrew (Sorex coronatus) record from Döhlen (District Oldenburg / Lower Saxony) it is shown that in north western Lower Saxony, just like in Westphalia, two-coloured Sorex coronatus occur. Additionally, the determination of Sorex coronatus and S. araneus (common shrew) by characteristic features of their coats is discussed. In this context the seasonal alteration of the Sorex araneus coat colour is demonstrated. Besides new records of Sorex coronatus in the Weser-Ems-Region are presented.
