Abstract

Heterogeneous bifunctional catalysts can be prepared in different ways. Impregnation and liquid ion exchange are time consuming and require additional amount of chemicals. This is not the case if solid-state methods such as solid-state ion exchange or solid-state redox exchange are applied. The presented thesis addresses metal and support properties for a successful solid-state redox exchange. The nature of the provided active centres by this method is investigated in comparison to those provided by conventional methods. It was proven by comprehensive characterization (TPHE, DRIFT, XAFS, XRD, and TPAD) that the solid-state redox exchange proceeds on metals with low melting point and a very negative electrochemical potential. The requirements with respect to the properties of the support are rather poor in a way that hydroxyl groups on the surface can undergo the solid-state redox exchange. In the non-oxidative activation of cyclohexane and ethane the evidence was given that the active centres provided by the solid-state redox exchange are identical to those formed by other methods.
