Abstract

Hybrid photovoltaics is a new technology which potentially combines the advantages of organic and inorganic solar cells. This dissertation handles the question of the origins for the relatively low performance of hybrid solar cells. For that, the first part of this work focuses on the investigation of defect states in hybrid films. Here, light induced electron spin resonance spectroscopy (l-ESR) as well as charge based deep level transient spectroscopy is used on hybrid films to characterize the influence of organic stabilizer molecules on surface defects of the nanoparticles. The second part shows the existence of charge transfer states in hybrid solar cells by l-ESR spectroscopy. The final part reports on the realization of alternate concepts to increase the power output of hybrid solar cells. By these investigations limiting factors in hybrid solar cells were found and characterized. In hybrid photovoltaic devices these findings may help to optimize their performance in future.
