Abstract

In this work ab inito studies on laser-induced desorption of CO molecules from a rutile(110) surface are presented. The substrate surface is modelled within the embedding cluster approach, using a Ti9O18 cluster. For a detailed understanding of the adsorption process the bonding behaviour of the CO adsorbate in the electronic ground state is studied in detail. Beneath that, the for the desorption relevant electronically excited states are studied and potential energy surfaces regarding more degrees of freedom than only the desorption coordinate Z are calculated. 2D quantum dynamical wave packet simulations concerning laser-induced desorption with respect to desorption coordinate Z and polar angle theta are presented. The systematic analysis of the wave packet dynamics leads to the understanding of the underlying desorption mechanism of CO molecules from the TiO2(110) surface.
