Abstract

A graphematic and literacy culture concept for the written language acquisition of poorly educated children – intervention study in class 1 and 2

["eprint_fieldname_abstract_plus" not defined]

This dissertation is about the testing of a graphematic and literacy culture concept for the written language acquisition of poorly educated children. National and international school performance studies show how educational success depends on the children's home. Graphematics describes the written language as a system. Orientation towards the written language creates a new perspective for poorly educated children without an intuitive feeling for language. In a two-year classroom research-project, this graphematic approach in the acquisition of written language was successfully tested in a primary school class in the most socially deprived area of Hamburg during the first and second years of school. After a short time, the children in the research project class were clearly above the children in the comparative classes, who were taught according to the conventional approach (orientation towards the spoken language), in almost all tests.
