Abstract
The paper discusses the possibilities of modeling cognitive processes with rule systems. Three starting points are selected: (1) presentation of the possible ways of representing declarative and procedural knowledge using examples from problem-solving and memory research, (2) presentation of forward or backward chained rule systems as models of data- or goal-controlled information processing, and (3) realization of rule systems with the artificial intelligence computer languages LISP and PROLOG.
