Abstract

In this work novel colloid-based heterogeneous catalysts have been investigated. Different Pt, Co, and CoPt nanoparticles have been prepared by the colloidal approach. Particle properties like size, shape, type of ligand and composition have been varied and characterized. Thereby systematic synthesis modifications led to the formation of Pt nanowires. In addition the on oxidic supports deposited colloidal particles are catalytic active as shown by the CO oxidation. It could be found that in dependence to the strength and nature of the surface/ligand bond and the accessibility to the adsorption sites the CO adsorption behaviour and catalytic activity changed. Pt nanowires exhibited in comparison to the considered catalysts the overall lowest temperature for CO2 conversion where during the reaction a shape change to quasi-spherical particles with enhanced crystallinity takes place. The in terms of chemical and structural properties excellent praseodymium oxide support material shows a special pronounced hysteresis behaviour during CO oxidation in comparison to the other oxidic substrates. Furthermore the variations in composition of spherical CoPt particles point to modifiable catalytic properties. There the alloy-like CoPt particles show higher activity than pure metal systems.
