Abstract

Cyber-Physical Energy Systems (CPES) increasingly depend on communication networks, requiring joint analysis of energy and communication systems, e.g. via co-simulation. Detailed network simulations are computationally expensive, while simplified analytical models often lack accuracy - a key trade-off for large-scale parameter and what-if studies. This thesis introduces an online-trained meta-model approximating detailed communication network simulations at runtime. It continuously monitors its own prediction accuracy and substitutes the detailed simulation once sufficient confidence is reached, reducing runtime. The approach relies on a structured, technology-agnostic representation of CPES communication scenarios and a discrete-event-compatible approximation model capable of online adaptation. Evaluation shows a favorable accuracy-efficiency trade-off: the meta-model outperforms analytical models in delay approximation while reducing execution time, enabling scalable CPES analysis.
