Abstract

The influence of a negative emotional distractor on the speech network areas during speaking in patients with parkinson's disease - an fMRI study

["eprint_fieldname_abstract_plus" not defined]

This study investigated the influence of a negative emotional stimulus on the speech network areas during speaking in Parkinson's patients. For this purpose, an fMRI study was carried out with 17 non-demented and non-depressive Parkinson's patients and 24 healthy control subjects of a similar age. The study paradigm contained two conditions with the same structure. Initially, either a neutral or a disgusted facial expression was shown for 300 milliseconds, followed by an everyday object (1 second), which had to be named aloud. The fMRI data were analyzed ROI-based in FSL. In both groups the negative stimulus reduced brain activity in the speech network. Within the Parkinson's group, this effect was particularly clear in the M1 (left> right) and in the healthy control group in the compensatory right hemispheric extramotor system (G. frontalis inf., G. temporalis sup.).
