Abstract

Evolutionary optimized posture and motion models based on motion capture data as part of health-related assistance systems

["eprint_fieldname_abstract_plus" not defined]

This thesis describes an approach to optimize posture and movement models based on motion capture data as part of health-related assistance systems. Evolutionary algorithms (EA) are used to optimize and adapt the models. EA are algorithms, which are particularly characterized by their flexibility. Using a generalized concept, it is shown how skeleton-based motion data from optical or inertial motion capture systems can be used to generate adapted models of human motion, which can then be used to make statements about human health or behavior, for example. The concept, which has been adapted to specific motion capture systems and application domains, was tested for practical feasibility and empirically evaluated with two health-related use cases. For both applications software prototypes are described and results of the empirical evaluation studies are discussed. The results show that the approach can in principle be implemented for practical use cases.
