Abstract

Studies on cognitive and affective aspects of the use of a student response system in chemistry classes

["eprint_fieldname_abstract_plus" not defined]

The paper at hand examines the student response system ARSnova in chemistry classes of the 6th and 10th grade at a grammar school. In the intervention study carried out, ARSnova was used in chemistry classes over a period of six 90-minute-lessons with the help Question Cycle developed by Dufresne et al. (1996). The results confirm that some of the positive tendencies found in higher education, for example in the areas of cooperation, attention and concentration (cf. Landrum, 2013; Russell et al., 2011) are also valid for the use of ARSnova in a 6th grade. By contrast, the results show that there are hardly any positive trends for pupils in the 10th grade. With regard to the effects of the instruction with ARSnova on the learning performance, the available results do not show a uniform picture.
