Abstract

Zusammenfassung: Der Aufsatz widmet sich Derek Jarmans monochromem Film Blue. Die Deutung des Films stellt nicht die künstlerische Auseinandersetzung mit AIDS ins Zentrum, sondern die ästhetische Selbstreflexion von Bild- und Ton- aufnahme im Verhältnis zu deren Bearbeitung und Versprachlichung. Inmitten einer akustischen Bilderflut gewinnt die leere Leinwand eine auratische Anmu- tung. Seine Autonomie als Kunstwerk erlangt Blue jedoch nicht in radikaler Abkehr von Kulturindustrie. Vielmehr erweist sich der Film als Echo der Kultur- industrie und darin zugleich als deren immanente Kritik. Schließlich stellt sich für dieses spezifische Kunstwerk die Frage nach seinem Bildcharakter. The interpretation of the film does not focus on its artistic examination of AIDS. Rather, it addresses the aesthetic self-reflexion of image and sound recording with regard to their arrangement and transformation into language. Amidst a flood of acoustic images, the blank screen assumes an auratic appearance. However, Blue does not obtain its autonomy as an artwork by radically rejecting the Culture Industry. Instead, the film can be considered as both an echo of the Culture Industry and its immanent critique.
