Abstract

Development and implementation of a method to optimize the computational effort for Bernstein and related copulas

["eprint_fieldname_abstract_plus" not defined]

In this thesis we examine Bernstein and related copulas for arbitrary dimensions d and arbitrary grid constants m and take a look at their construction through discrete random vectors with uniform margins. Next we investigate different methods to fit empirical multivariate data to a Bernstein copula: the estimation using a Rook copula and the method based on grid-type copulas and (multivariate) contingency tables. We further suggest an approach to fit the dependence structure of the observed multivariate data to Bernstein copulas with any grid constant and any dimension. This is accomplished by using a Rook copula and methods of cluster analysis. Finally, we compare these various methods with the help of a Monte Carlo study for the simulation and Value-at-Risk estimation for aggregated dependent losses from observed windstorm and flooding data.
