Abstract

In der Dissertation wird eine Methode entwickelt und angewandt, die der Abschätzung der Beiträge einer Branche zur nachhaltigen Entwicklung mittels eines Indikatorensystems dient. Die Methode wird erprobt und in ihrer Anwendung demonstriert, indem ein Indikatorensystem und die Vorgehensweise zur Untersuchung der Beiträge der ökologischen Land- und Ernährungswirtschaft in Berlin-Brandenburg zur nachhaltigen Regionalentwicklung reflektiert und weiterentwickelt werden. Ein Ergebnis der Methodenanwendung sind Vorschläge zur Modifikation des Indikatorensystems mittels Indikatorenaggregation, Auswahl von Schlüsselindikatoren und Aufnahme zusätzlicher Indikatoren. Mit Hilfe des weiterentwickelten Indikatorensystems und empirischer Ergebnisse aus dem Forschungsprojekt werden außerdem die Handlungs- und Wirkungsschwerpunkte der Branche in der Region herausgearbeitet. Auf dieser Basis werden schließlich Vorschläge für (Branchen- und Politik-)Strategien zur Ausweitung positiver Nachhaltigkeitsbeiträge der Branche mit der Methode abgeleitet.

Developing and testing a method for assessing the contributions of an economic sector towards sustainable development by using an indicator system – the example of the organic agriculture and food sector in the Berlin-Brandenburg region of Germany

In the dissertation, a method is developed and applied that serves for assessing the contributions of an economic sector towards sustainable development by using an indicator system. The method is tested – and its application is demonstrated – by reflecting an existing indicator system and a procedure that both were designed for assessing the contributions of the organic agriculture and food sector of the Berlin-Brandenburg region in Germany. One result of applying the method are suggestions for modifying the indicator system by aggregating some indicators, selecting key indicators and integrating new indicators. In addition, based on this further developed indicator system and on empirical results from a research project, the main interaction and impact areas of the sector in the region are identified. On this basis, suggestions for (sector and policy) strategies are derived with the method, aiming at increasing the positive sustainability contributions of the sector.
