Abstract

Auf Grundlage der Werke, die Derridas Ruhm im Wesentlichen begründet haben (besonders Die Stimme und das Phänomen, Grammatologie und Die Schrift und die Differenz), analysiert und erläutert die Dissertation Derridas Dekonstruktion des abendländischen Zeichenkonzepts. Dabei erweist sich die unauflösliche Verflechtung dieser Unternehmung mit dem Projekt einer Dekonstruktion der gesamten europäischen Philosophie seit Platon. Gegen die verbreitete Rede von der Unverständlichkeit der Werke Derridas wird gezeigt, daß seine Schreibweise bei geeignetem Vorgehen sehr viel zugänglicher ist, als gemeinhin angenommen. Darüber hinaus wird sie bei genauer Betrachtung als stilistische Konsequenz inhaltlicher Positionen erkennbar. Diese folgen, so die an zahlreichen Beispielen entwickelte Hauptthese der Dissertation, in bisher undurchschautem Maß dem Grundmuster eines 'Denkens vom Signifikanten aus'.

On the basis of those works which established Derrida's reputation (especially Speech and Phenomena, Of Grammtology and Writing and Difference), the dissertation at hand analyses and comments on Derrida's deconstruction of the Western concept of signs. In the process, it will become clear that Derrida's attempt at deconstruction is inseparably entwined with the deconstruction of all of European philosophy since Plato. Though Derrida's works are often held to be incomprehensible, it will be shown that his way of writing is - when properly approached - much more accessible than is commonly believed. It will also become evident that Derrida's way of writing is to be perceived as the stylistic consequence of his ideas. Thus, using numerous examples, the dissertation develops its primary thesis: that the work of Derrida reveals a pattern of 'thinking from the signifier', whose extent and pervasiveness have as yet not been fully appreciated.
