Abstract

The ability of the human auditory system to function under unfavorable acoustic conditions, for example focusing on a single talker in an environment with background noise, is well known. Multiple signal features are evaluated to extract the target signal. Two of the important signal features are binaural cues and the pitch or harmonicity of a signal. The aim of this thesis is to provide psychophysical data and develop and evaluate models for binaural and harmonic processing of periodic signals. The first part of this thesis deals with the influence of envelope waveform on the processing of interaural time differences (ITDs) in signals with a periodic envelope. The second and third part investigate the combined processing of harmonicity and ITDs using detection experiments and auditory modeling. The findings presented here give valuable insights into the joint processing of binaural and periodicity cues and lead to a better understanding of the ASA process in humans.

Binaurale auditorische Verarbeitung und zeitliche Periodizität: Experimente und Modelle

["eprint_fieldname_abstract_plus" not defined]
