Abstract

In the 1990's and after the turn of the century, the problem of deflation dramatically emerged in China and in other countries. Since the 'open door' policy the economy in China has been growing relatively fast. Available statistical data reveal that the growth process in China between 1997 and 2000 was accompanied by a deflation. The economic development in China is observed with great attention in business circles and by scientists. The goal of this dissertation is the theoretical and economic research into the causations and effects of deflation in China. Western economic theories are used as the basis for the analysis of the Chinese economic growth during the transformation from the central planned economy to the market economy. The special characteristics in China are considered in the development of these theories. The emphasis of this work is on the development of an economic cum empirical model. With the help of this model, the crucial factors influencing the price level in China are identified, and the various reciprocal actions in the national economy are recognisable.

In den 90er Jahren und nach der Jahrhundertwende tauchte das Problem der Deflation in China und in einigen anderen Ländern dramatisch auf. Seit der 'open door' Politik wächst die Wirtschaft in China relativ schnell. Zwischen 1997 und 2000 zeigten alle zugänglichen Statistiken, dass der Wachstumsprozess in China von einer Deflation begleitet wurde. Die Wirtschaftsentwicklung in China wird von Unternehmern und Wissenschaftlern mit großer Aufmerksamkeit verfolgt. Das Ziel der vorliegenden Arbeit besteht in der theoretischen und empirischen Analyse der Deflationsursachen und -auswirkungen in China. Die westlichen Wirtschaftstheorien sind die Analysebasis, um die chinesische Wirtschaft in der Transformationsperiode von der Zentralplanwirtschaft zur Marktwirtschaft zu analysieren. Bei der Entwicklung dieser Theorien werden die besonderen Merkmale in China berücksichtigt. Der Schwerpunkt dieser Arbeit liegt auf der Entwicklung eines eigenen volkswirtschaftlichen empirischen Modells. Mit Hilfe dieses Modells können die entscheidenden Einflussfaktoren des Preisniveaus in China identifiziert werden, und die unterschiedlichen Wechselwirkungen in der Volkswirtschaft sind erkennbar.
