Abstract

Die vorliegende Untersuchung geht der Frage nach, ob deutsche Lehnwörter in der polnischen Sprache gegenüber indigenen Lexemen in spezifischer Weise – womöglich pejorativ – konnotiert seien. Diese kulturhistorisch begründete Fragestellung wird in zwei Strängen empirisch untersucht an 38 Synonymenkonstellationen aus insgesamt 168 Lexemen indigener oder fremder Herkunft. Elf der Synonymenkonstellationen referieren auf Personen, sie stehen zunächst im Zentrum einer historisch-interpretativen Analyse von Originalbelegen seit dem 14. Jahrhundert bis heute. Das gesamte Sample aus diesen Personalia sowie einer Vergleichsgruppe aus 27 Synonymenkonstellationen ohne personale Referenz wird sodann quantitativ für 20. und 21. Jahrhundert auf Synonymie und Konnotation überprüft. Als Ergebnis kann man formulieren: Im Ganzen gesehen weisen deutsche Lehnwörter im Polnischen gegenüber indigenen oder anderen entlehnten Lexemen kein spezifisches Konnotationsverhalten auf. Die viel zitierte 'schwierige Nachbarschaft' der beiden Nationen scheint sich zumindest in der hier untersuchten polnischen Schrift- und Standardsprache nicht niedergeschlagen zu haben.

The research at hand investigates the question if German borrowings in the Polish language might be connotated, in comparison with indigenous lexemes, in a specific – possibly pejorative – manner. This historic-culturally founded question has been analyzed empirically in two different ways based on a selection of 38 synonymous constellations from a total of 168 lexemes, both indigenous and borrowed. First, eleven of these constellations of synonyms referring to persons constitute the centre of a historic-interpretative analysis of original instances dating from the 14th century up to the present. Second, the complete sample consisting of these personalia as well as of a reference group of 27 synonymous constellations of impersonalia has been checked quantitatively for the 20th and the first years of the 21st century with regard to synonymy and connotation. The conclusion is that, on the whole, German borrowings in the Polish language, in comparison with indigenous or elsewhere borrowed lexemes, do not show any specific connotations. The frequently quoted 'difficult neighbourhood' of those two nations at least seems to find no expression in the here examined written Polish standard language.
